February 26th, 2010 at 19:33

The internet is one of the most exciting developments in the history of the world. Any means that enhances information delivery is a big step forward.

Can you even recall what it was like not having the internet? Computers? Not me; it’s completely woven its way and become important in every facet of our existence.

Speaking of web for business, more and more enterprise owners are finally embracing the web. What this means is competition for top search engine rankings is heating up.

Selecting A Generator – Which Will Suit Your Needs? - is one more helpful article for you.

Others in my profession are doing the same. Page one of Google is getting very competitive in our industry. Google’s top spot is very important in not only my industry, but practically all industries.

It seems to me that accounting balance sheets may even start contemplating search engine rankings when evaluating the goodwill of a firm. That’s how crucial search engine rankings are.

My problem as business owner is picking the good SEO products and not getting suckered with the lousy ones. Few are great, some are first-rate, plenty are trash.

Business owners and management are fools if they don’t stay on top of their SEM rankings and the latest SEM tools. The hard part is trying to figure out the good SEO tools from the bad SEO tools.

Again, the web comes in handy. You can easily research anything you want, including SEO tools. Introducing product reviews.

I find product and service reviews amazingly valuable. Thanks to many bloggers and niche website owners, there are reviews on any service and product you can imagine.

In fact I don’t purchase anything without checking out a review. Those reviews I find on the internet. My rule for reviewing before purchasing particularly applies to all the SEM service tools I buy.

That said, read reviews with a bit of a dubious eye. Why? Because many reviews are just a plug so that they get an affiliate sale.

It’s true, many reviews are there purely for the money received after a sale. You need to look for reviews that impartially present the facts.

A factual review in my opinion is a balanced review. Armed with facts I can make a purchase decision.

11 suggestions distinguishing the good from the bad when reading internet reviews

1. Does it read like one of those long sales pages (called squeeze pages). If so, I’d ignore it.

2. If it’s entirely persuasive in language, it’s not good.

3. Do you like the information in the rest of the site?

4. Does the review detail any disclosure statements? If so, it’s not necessarily bad. It simply helps to know what you’re reading.

5. Are other reviews on the site objective? If yes, that’s a good sign; if no, then maybe not so good for the review you’re reading.

6. Is there any actual helpful information in the review or is it hype?

7. Is the author knowledgeable about the product or service?

8. How does the review compare to other reviews? Always read more than one review.

9. Did you access the review through a sponsored link or organic link? Sponsored links are paid links. Again, sponsored links doesn’t mean it’s a low-quality review; it’s just something to be aware of.

10. Don’t be fooled if it’s a respected publication. They too have affiliations and paid ads (i.e. advertorials).

11. Does the review set out both the good and the bad about your product or service?

Those bad reviews are written only for the affiliate commissions. I don’t resent affiliate marketing; it’s a great service as long as the intention is to offer truthful and sincere information.

Overall, I believe many affiliate marketers in the form of reviewers offer a valuable service. Whether they are reviewing clothing, health products, or search engine marketing services, many are quality reviews that assist the public.
