Travel Suggestions: Check Lists Before Leaving

September 3rd, 2010 at 8:30

People tend to be excited with the prospect of travel that they forget things that they are supposed to bring. So what you should do is prepare a list of what to do that you can refer to before leaving the house. Doing this can prevent any unforeseen problems that may crop up while you are away.

Reminder One: No one would be using the water heater so turn it down low.

Item Two: If it is summertime, set the air conditioner to a low degree. Your power bill will be up, but you need to protect your pets and electronic devices from the daytime heat.

Item Three: If it is springtime or fall, you can lower your heater setting. But if it is winter, keep your home warm enough. Again, it may cost you in terms of power bills but you will be protecting your pets as well as water pipes and fittings.

Fourth: Give the impression that somebody is at home by leaving shades and drapes as they normally are.

Reminder Five: Leave some kind of noise maker such as a radio that is rigged to turn on and off intermittently.

Item Six: Do not forget to lock all entrances and exit points in the house.

Item Seven: Unplug your computer and all other electronic gadgets because they might be damaged in case of a storm. Do not leave your phone line connected to the modem. But if your computer is also your answering machine, then you need to leave it hooked up. Check if your power regulators are plugged on. Eighth: Your car should not be left behind visible to people passing by, so park it in your closed garage.

Disable connections to the garage door. You may unplug it if possible, and don’t just pull out the fuse for the garage without checking if it is connected to other appliances that needs to be kept running. Following these nine things will ensure that you will have an enjoyable vacation. Satisfied that you have left nothing at home to chance, you can go on and have a great and pleasurable holiday, as holidays are meant to be.
