Audio Mastering Ebook, Professional Audio Hints And Easy Mastering Tips

Saturday, February 20th, 2010

Talented musician Manuel Marino has released a PDF document about Audio Mastering, a Mastering Guide that he wrote after receiving hundreds requests from his musicians friends.

You can find many documents on the net and at your preferred store. But what new artists really need are few tips, to understand the basics, not huge books with infinite technical data.

So he had this idea to write a “very simple” Mastering Guide, and, I must say, it is really simple, anyone can begin mastering with some success after reading it. He gives also a couple of “tricks” so you can begin very soon to create a professional quality master. Of course this will not make you a mastering guru, but you can be sure your music projects will be much better after reading it.

The price of this Mastering Guide is 5 dollars only, this is why the main purpose of writing it was helping his friends and of course helping you, the new musicians with their first audio tools.

There are artists, talented pianists and guitarists that consider Digital Audio Workstations like hard machines. They had only an academical education and it is difficult to explain them how dynamics works. Now with this PDF they’ll finally grab the basics about compressors and dynamics.

“Manuel Marino is a former mp3.com artist who decided to strike out on his own after mp3.com’s copyright scandal in 2000. His studio, Marino Sounds, provides audio for game, television and multimedia projects at as low a rate as possible in order to actively encourage business from the indie scene. Projects such as Derek Smart Universal Combat and the X-com inspired UFO: Alien Invasion gave Marino a certain kudos, and his current work on the Morrowind ITP (Italian Translation Project) comprises a further step towards the mainstream. “Being ‘indie’ is like being in a big family. I feel that other independent musicians and designers are my brothers, and that they deserve my help,” he told me. He’s enjoyed the game experience so much that he’s planning to establish a full-time dev team.” (Paul Taylor, Music4Games)

Don’t wait another minute and read this Mastering Guide immediately! Manuel Marino’s Mastering Guide is $5 dollars only!!!

The WMA MP3 War

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010

WMA formatting versus MP3; when is one better than the other and is there even that much of a difference? I have pondered this a couple of times as I was downloading things and uploading other things and making little studio remixes of my own music. So I decided maybe it was a good idea to put one next to the other and see what I could come up and pass that info on to someone else.

The WMA attractiveness comes from Microsoft’s claim that this format is the most accurate audio format available to date. The Windows Media Audio (WMA) format is definitely bulky enough to back up this claim. Recordings of the same clip in WMA format will nearly always be larger than those of MP3s. Microsoft has tried to make up for this my having the WMA format play at a higher bitrate than MP3s. That is- make it go faster. A lot of people still aren’t convinced.

MP3 or MPEG3 stands for Moving Picture Experts Group-Layer 3, so yeah, MP3 works much better for marketing purposes. The idea behind MP3s was to make the files themselves smaller than WMAs. They do this by eliminating the audio range that has been deemed inaudible by the human ear. This greatly reduces the space needed for the audio file and enables more music or audio files to be stored. Currently MP3 files are used mostly in MP3 players for purchased and pirated- amen- backed-up music files.

Looking at both WMA and MP3 files on the same audio player you have to wonder which one will sound better and the answer is, it’s hard to tell. A lot of this depends on your player’s capability. WMAs sound better than MP3s at the same bitrate, but the average person will not be able to tell the difference unless they really concentrate. So that’s no help in deciding things at all. So you can eliminate bitrate differential from our argument here.

MP3 files are smaller by an average of 1/3 and that is an advantage to the format. On the smaller hard drives that came with the original digital music players, MP3 files were preferred because you could store more of them on a device. Now, this wouldn’t seem like as big of a deal, but consumers have grown used to MP3s and they have become the portable music standard. WMAs are used on computers and in a lot of games for Windows where hard drive space and processing speed are not really issues.

Most “MP3 players” will play WMAs as well, that’s not a huge issue there. The biggest issue is whether or not you want to deal with slightly less space by having WMAs over MP3s. Considering, like we said, the quality difference on a player is so small, it really doesn’t matter. The main thing is being able to keep track of one format. Picking one and sticking with it is best.

Converting from WMA to MP3 format is not a bad thing and can be done on nearly any home computer. The problem is getting a good conversion rate and speed. This process can take awhile. Converting from MP3 to WMA takes a little less time, but unless you have a WMA specific project, it’s kind of a silly thing to do. The more you convert any file, the more quality you lose. Like making a copy of a copy of a copy and so on.

Taking a look at WMAs versus MP3 formats, I’d say go with the MP3 if you’re just an everyday person. There’s no point in using the added room that WMAs have built into them unless you’re a musician or otherwise wish to alter the original format. So it looks like MP3 are going to be the standard for music players for a long time.

Audio Video Tuners for Space

Friday, February 12th, 2010

Sound, without it we’d all be watching Charlie Chaplin rip-offs nearly 100 years later. Good quality sound augments the picture and increases the enjoyment of the home movie experience. Not the home movies you took on vacation, NOTHING will help with those- but the movies that you watch at home.

The best way to approach getting the most out of your movie and television watching experience is to look at your tuner. You don’t have one? Don’t worry; I’m going to help you make an informed choice. For those of you who do, I’m going to help you get the most out of what you have.

Before we even begin to look at a tuner it is important that you think about what it is you are hooking up to your TV. Most cable boxes, DVD players, satellite receivers etc can be ran through a tuner. And this is a lovely thing. Still, grab a piece of paper and see about making a list of what kinds of outputs each of these devices have. Keep the list Poindexter; we’re going to need it.

Now that you have established what sort of outputs your audio/video devices have, it’s time to take stock. HDMI is much preferred these days for ease of installation, overall neatness and preservation of audio and video quality. If your cable box does not have a HDMI output, call the cable company and tell them to bring you one, the same goes for satellite companies too. The newer DVD and Blu-Ray players should have these already. If one or two devices are component only, that’s okay as well, we’ll make it work.

Multiple HDMI outputs from your devices to the single input tuner is not a problem. A simple HDMI hub can be installed to combine all of these cables into one that will go into your tuner. Many of these have an automatic switch on them that will change to the last device powered on. So basically your tuner and TV can stay on the same settings. This is mighty convenient.

Even if some of your devices have an RCA or component output you can still use the HDMI out on your tuner. This is nice because you will have the same sound quality no matter what you are using and still do not have to change the input setting on your TV.

Buy a Blu-ray or DVD/tuner combo is a real headache saver. And in the long run cheaper too. Think about this, you can still keep all the movies you’ve purchased and upgrade your video quality for the next round of movies you’re bound to buy. This saves you money. Having a unit that does two things at once saves you time.

Following these tips will keep you from leaving one of your devices unhooked or saving you a trip to the store for something else. Overall though you will most likely find that most tuners will have enough inputs for all of your devices. It just is a nice thing to make sure.

Helpful Tips To Buy A Potable Audio System

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010

With advancement in technology and surplus varieties of product available in market it’s always difficult for the buyer to choose from the lot unless he has some idea on how to buy a portable audio system. The portable audio system should be reliable and should also ensure maximum performance in terms of voice and sound clarity and music reproduction. The key features of the particular portable audio system should always match with the buyer’s requirement and no compromises should be made on this.

The first thing you have to consider here is to about estimating the appropriate size of your sound system which is portable. You should decide about the size that is if you have a larger one which is portable, you cannot carry your audio system in plane wherever you go.

It’s always appealing to start with the size and overall weight of the portable audio system before looking into its key features. The small and lighter ones are always easy to carry with the luggage but a few compromises have to be made in terms of its power. The bigger audio system obviously has much better output power compared to the smaller ones, so the buyer should decide whether he needs a small, compact and easy to carry audio system or big, high power audio system.

Few portable audio system offers many inputs and others provide only standard inputs if a portable audio system with standard inputs say like 6-8 channels make you less convincing in terms of input channels, there is a solution, a custom package that match the requirement can be provided by increasing the input channels while still maintaining the audio systems portability.

In the third step we need to unscrew a knob that is used for shifting gears. This is easy as we just need to operate the screw driver in the left direction. Thus the knob gets removed completely. As we do this we reach the lower dash where we will locate a storage compartment. The doors of this compartment is opened after which trim panel is pulled. The panel is completely pulled after which the harness for wiring is let free. This removes the panel completely.

The lock for shifter is released the the gear is set to the lowest position by adjustment of the handle for shifter. Now storage compartment is pulled in such a way that if moves under the radio. We will find heater controls and bolts of size 10 mm near it . We need to remove these bolts in our next step.

There are vents located on top of the radio . Just pry them and take them out. This is the seventh step. The last and eighth step would be to separate the control and assembly unit for radio and climate from the in dash. The wiring for harness should be detached from its plug connection at back of the radio.

Understanding And Appreciating Headphones And All They’re Capable Of

Saturday, February 6th, 2010

What to know about headphones and how they operate can be somewhat of a necessity these days if one is a true audiophile. That’s because there are a great many different headphones on the market nowadays and some are very much different and quite a bit more capable than their older siblings from just 10 years ago, in truth.

For starters, these listening devices are no longer bound by wires to a stereo or television, though there are a great many high quality devices of such composition that are still being sold, and which are quite popular in a variety of different situations. This can include the studio environment or for use by disc jockeys, most especially. However — for the vast majority of listeners — wireless devices have come to be greatly popular of late.

For the most part, these particular listening devices can be grouped into two general categories; wireless and infrared (IR). Infrared devices are basically working on the same principle as the typical remote controller that oversees the operation of a television, DVD player or the like. The principle in question is an infrared beam that travels to and from the device and the transmitter that is hooked up to the TV or stereo.

It should be said that these devices are somewhat limited to strictly line-of-sight and that they will not work if that sort of line of sight is impeded or otherwise not present. It also will not be able to pick up the infrared beam if it is not in at least the same room as the transmitter device coming from the stereo or television in which the device has been hooked to.

A big upside to the typical infrared listening device is that battery life is longer than in a set of wireless headphones, though these sorts of wireless devices have a great many things going for them. First of all, one can put on a set of these devices and pretty much go anywhere in the house or other environment that the signal is being transmitted in. It is only limited by the range of the device and the transmitter, in other words.

In effect, there is no need for any sort of line-of-sight consideration and some audiophiles believe that the listening experience is a bit better with these wireless devices. However, battery life can be greatly shortened at typical listening volumes, with some users reporting about four hours — at most — of alkaline battery life, meaning that such batteries will need to be replaced fairly often.

The way around that is to purchase a couple of sets of nickel cadmium rechargeable batteries, of course. One set can be in a wireless listening device while the other set sits in the recharger, refreshing itself for further duty later in the day. The biggest upside to either type of wireless or infrared device is that there is no need for any sort of wire running from the device to the stereo. This is very liberating, it must be said.

Nowadays, wireless headphones or infrared headphones are also qualitatively better than headphones of just several years or so ago. Many feature better tonal and bass quality, as well, even in the most inexpensive of models. There are drawbacks and benefits to each, of course, so make sure to research any possible headphone purchase before deciding.

Listen to your music by wearing headphones. If you get the right pair of headphone you will have a wonderful experience. Find your pair today online.

Coolest MP3 Accessories of 2010

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010

I’ve noticed something over the past few years that most people have turned in their stale radios for ever inventive MP3 players, including most recently myself. I tried to stave off technology, fearing change as if it was a dreaded disease. I was always thinking, if it was good enough for my favorite radio DJ’s then, it must be good enough for me.

One day, when the Immigrant Song came blaring over the radio for the ten thousandth time that morning, I went begging to my wife for her hand me down MP3 player, not knowing it would afterward send me into a flurry of shopping for MP3 accessories. This gave me the idea of coming up with a small shopping list.

Cases are mainly for protection while keeping Led Zeppelin within ears ready reach, but they come in virtually every color under the sun. You can choose black or silver for undetectable wear under your suit while at work or, if you want, chose the studded red case that matches your best handbag to make the undeniable statement I am woman, hear me roar!

Next you need a clip so that your MP3 player won’t slip away into the void of your pants, jackets, unmentionables, etc. You can go with the obvious belt clip, thinking to emulate your local handyman with his ever ready hammer, only your hammer would be belting out “Can’t touch this.”

Armbands are great for those who are athletically minded or else just like wearing lots of spandex. When a pocket or a place to clip your MP3 player to is not available, and armband will rescue you from unsightly bulges. Arm band are a big lifesaver on this count. Just make sure your favorite headset cable is a nice length. With all the biking, running and rock climbing you will be doing, the last thing you need is to get tangled.

Docking stations are the greatest in MP3 accessories. They have come a long way from a place to charge your IPOD. They now allow you to blast your musical tastes into the ears of everyone around you. You can even have then hard wired into your electrical systems, hang them in your shower so you can pretend you are the greatest singer since Freddie Mercury, or you can hook them into your computers and televisions to allow access while doing the very important things you do on your computer.

The most versatile of MP3 accessories are headphones and earbuds. They can be a few dollars or a few hundred dollars, depending on if you want them for audio clarity or because they look like Mickey Mouse. They can be large, hard, squishy and gooey but are there for your choice in comfort and taste, just don’t eat the ones that look like M&Ms.

I will admit at work that using the player with the MP3 accessories has kept me out of trouble, virtually becoming a babysitter of sorts because I don’t hear all the gossip that gets me into trouble. It’s really too bad keeping my kids out of trouble isn’t so easy.

Have Small Ears and Looking for Earphones?

Saturday, January 30th, 2010

After the arrival of in-ear sound-isolating earphones, one would assume that an audiophile’s most basic needs have currently been answered. Modern high-tech toys are capable of offering a great range of sound at effective volumes in whatever place your ears happen to be. The only puzzle we still need to answer is small ears. I’m not discussing children’s ears – that’s for a future article. This article is going to talk about grown-ups who merely happen to have tinier than usual ear canals. A number of earphone wearers report earphones which will not slide down far enough into the ear canal, or hurt when they do. Well, the it’s fortunate that a few earphone producers, on purpose or accident, currently offer a group of compact earphones for discerning adults. A great option is the Bose QuietComfort 3.

Audio Technica earphones offer some fantastic sound quality contained in a very tiny package. Their beefy 12.5 mm driver broadcasts a wide variety of sound, and a very suitable volume. However, the earphones are designed to be as compact as can be managed, and fit very petite ears comfortably.

Atomic Bass markets a model which delivers a double-specialized package of small earphones and brawny bass booms. If you live for bass-heavy music such as hard rock or hip-hop, Atomic Bass is a worthwhile brand to check out. Atomic Bass has an original approach to the fitting conundrum. Atomic Bass’ earphones could be inserted from three available angles, and come with three fittings, the smallest one being one of the smallest on the market. Three insertion angles combined with three fitting sizes equal nine specific solutions for creating the most appropriate fit for everyone’s ears. You may want to look into the Denon AH-NC732 Active Noise Canceling Headphones.

The Etymotic ER6i product is not quite the bass-blaster that Atomic Bass is, but Etymotic’s bass is accurate and the earphones produce a properly balanced presentation for the other parts of the available range. With overall superb sound as well as comfortably sized earphones, most users will be very happy with these tiny jewels.

The Shure Ec2 ear buds offer a suitable selection of speaker sleeves, and it is likely that even the narrowest ears will be accommodated using one of those sleeves. Shure has a solid reputation of offering high performance stereo equipment to the commercial and retail markets, so one could anticipate some superlative music from the Shure Ec2 headphones. These earbuds can kick out that performance, and they wrap it in a package which is lightweight, comfortable, and just the thing for narrow ears.

People are not mass-produced products, and that explains why items like jackets and boots come in so many sizes. It easily follows, then, that earbuds need to be designed in a selection of sizes to work for anyone who prefers good music and a comfortable fit.

Changing Times – From Vynal RecordsTo MP3 Players

Saturday, January 30th, 2010

In the past, those of us who are old enough to remember, most likely had a collection of LPs. This, along with cassette tapes were all we knew, and using a record player, we could enjoy our songs without having to wait for them to come on the radio. Today, technology is so different that it barely resembles its former self.

Today, we carry around portable devices that holdour music library in a gadget that is only just larger than our thumb. The MP3 music player technology first surfaced in the mid-1980s and we would not see digital media player in its present state until the late 1990s, 1998 to be correct. But as soon as it arrived, it revolutionized the world of music forever.

MP3 digital players use media processing technology to convert existing audio files into the MP3 format. The MP3 format consists of compressed audio files; sound that has been compressed into very small files that can fit into the MP3 media player. MP3s achieve this compression withoutnoticeably sacrificing the audio’s sound quality.

In some instances, it can be possible, depending on the memory size of the MP3 digital player, to hold thousands of songs within its confines. And that’s not all, because of its size an MP3 music player is a portable device that can fit in handbags or coat pockets.

The MP3 digital player transfers digital files via the use of a computer. The most fashionable variation of the MP3 music player is the iPod, which has made connecting to a computer simple and handy for users using the iTunes software. Even though many other MP3 audio player manufactures use Windows Media Player to connect their player to a computer.

Using a PC, users can either upload their favorite CDs that can then be downloaded onto the MP3 music player; or they can purchase songs online and then download them to the unit. Apple’s iTunes is the most commonly used musical resource for buying and downloading songs, even though there are other services available online.

But aside from the ease of transferring and updating songs, the MP3 music player is generally valued for its portability. It can be plugged into your vehicle and played through your cars sound system, or radio with an FM transmitter, plugged into earphones and played while you exercise, or connected to portable speakers and played throughout your home. In any case, the MP3 music player is still one of the best pieces of equipment available in the market today, to play music.
