Inland Beach Cottage Rentals

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

When many people, singles and families alike, think about booking a holiday, many of them would only think about going to the beach for a fortnight’s lounging on the beach under the sun and swimming in warm, blue waters.

However, many of the best, most famous beach locations are magnets for hordes of people. It appears that most people like the sand, the sea and the sun. Now some people go to these destinations precisely because they are busy. They like the crowds and the night clubs that attract them. Mainly singles go to these types of places and a holiday romance is not far from many peoples’ minds.

Couples and older people may prefer a little less noise, pollution and commotion. However, there are beaches which meet these demands too. Often they are private beaches. Some have hotels on them but some do not. Those that do not frequently have inland beach cottage rental properties instead. These are virtually always self-catering.

When most people think of a beach it is automatically connected with the sea. However, this need not inevitably be so. There are also inland beaches on lakes and rivers. These beaches are usually referred to as inland beaches. Accommodation can be a problem with even some of the best inland beaches.

Many of these inland beaches are simply not well-known enough to make a hotel commercially viable, but some of them have cottage rentals as an alternative. These cottages, or cabins sometimes, can be difficult to find if you do not reserve early enough. They are usually complete homes, fully equipped with all the household facilities you have grown accustomed to: a fully furnished living room, multiple bedrooms, bathrooms, and a modern kitchen.

Inland beach cottage rentals are popular because they are often situated exactly on the water’s edge. This makes the bit of beach right before your cottage your private beach. You can sleep on it at night if it’s hot, lie there all day or set up a few fishing lines.

In the evenings, you can hitch up with neighbours to have a party or keep yourself to yourself. For this reason, it is a good thought to check photos of the cottage before you make a booking.

If an inland beach cottage rental sounds right for you, there are thousands to choose from in the United States and Canada. The Great Lakes are a particularly beautiful place to go. There are excellent locations in the Finger Lakes region of New York state and along Lake Michigan and Lake Huron.

You will not be disappointed about going on holiday to an inland beach cottage rental property. There are so many variations that there is certainly something for every pocket and every family size. Singles are not so well catered for, but if you want a quiet holiday alone. maybe to study, then this might right be for you too.

You can fly into some of these resorts by seaplane, but it is more likely that you will take your own car or a rental car, if you want to get out and do some exploring further afield. Personally, I would rather hire a dinghy.

Caravan Insurance; Why Is It An Important Consideration?

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

Chester Cooke was excited by the prospect of buying a caravan on the banks of the River Avon, not far from Stratford, on a professionally run, well maintained and gorgeous site with lots of amenities. Being a diligent kind of chap, he looked into all of the potential issues, after all you can’t be too careful with the thick end of twenty grand plus annual service charges, which didn’t include insurance for some reason.

He phoned his broker and asked about caravan insurance who told him that there shouldn’t be any problem and the broker would be delighted to give Chester a quote. Chester gave the broker details about the type, value and size of the caravan and where it would be situated.

A few minutes later, the broker called Chester back and said that unfortunately he was not able to find any insurance companies that would offer him insurance, not because of the caravan itself, or even the site that he had chosen, but it was to do with the exact spot that he had chosen. It was right on the bank of river Avon, which had flooded the year before, causing a massive number of insurance claims on the grounds of water damaged property, and so now insurers were very wary about insuring caravans that were right on the water’s edge. This meant that if Chester really wanted the caravan, and he wanted it right there, it would have to be at his own risk.

This was deal breaking news. It was highly likely that the Avon would flood again at sometime in the future and Chester couldn’t afford to take on a caravan without insurance. He asked his broker about these other “normal criteria” of caravan sites that he should look for if he was going ahead with his plan to buy a caravan.

A registered CaSSOA site is ideal for caravan insurance providers. The reason for this is that these sites have security standards. Another thing to look for in a caravan site is a secure boundary like a fence or a tall, thick bush running around the boundaries of the site. If the caravan is to be placed in a less formal location, such as a farm, then the caravan should have its own compound and it own defined perimeter. Some insurance providers insist that a caravan site must have a certain number of caravans placed there before they will insure any, safety in numbers as it were.

Chester hadn’t really though that the insurance would play such an important part in the buying of his caravan. He was just appreciative of his knowledgeable broker who could steer him in the right direction, after all, he just wanted to enjoy his caravan and the insurance was just to take to worry out of owning one.

Top Notch Cruises

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

If you enjoy travelling and seeing new destinations, I advocate a cruise. I have cruised the Mediterranean and the Baltic and my next cruise will be a Caribbean cruise. I am really looking forward to it. If you have never been on a cruise, start saving up now, because it is luxury like you have never imagined before.

Never having been on a Caribbean cruise before, I do not know how much the different Caribbean islands differ from one another, so I do not know how varied that cruise would be. However, I have cruised the Med and the Baltic and woken up to a different country every day and in both of those seas and every country is very different from its neighbours.

On our Baltic cruise we left from Southampton and cruised to Gothenburg in Sweden. From there we went to Helsinki and Leningrad (in those days). On the way back, we called into Copenhagen and the Tivoli Gardens. None of those countries was in any way similar to another or even Britain.

Similarly, my Mediterranean cruise left from Minorca in north eastern Spain going east to Sardinia and then north along the southern coast of Europe. Italy, France and Spain. The second week of the cruise left Minorca again and went to Sicily and then south along the northern coast of Africa including Malta.

The luxury on a cruise is practically indescribable to someone who has never been on a cruise. There is no standard higher than five stars, but the cruises I have been on offered superior levels of luxury than any five star hotels I have stayed in anywhere in the world.

Food and shore trips play a major part of cruising. The food is top notch with no mistake. Breakfast on a cruise liner is better than most Americans and most Europeans have for dinner. Whatever you want from prawns to steak, from exotic fruit to porridge. Lunch and dinner are even more sumptuous.

Shore excursions are well organized too. They include a ferry from the cruise liner to the land and then a coach trip by a local firm to the destination, which could be an historical site or a shopping mall. Most cruisers go on these trips, but some would rather stay on board and take advantage of the lower number of passengers and the free food.

I went on every shore excursion and thoroughly enjoyed each one. The excursions are usually pricey though, but you are part of a trapped audience, so what can you expect?

I thoroughly recommend a cruise holiday to any and every one. You should go at least once in your life, but do not leave it until late in your life because you will want to go again.

The first thing that you should know about renting a car internationally is that, in most cases, you will need to obtain an international driving permit. Some countries that you visit will be fine with your renting the car with a license from the United States, others will not and require this permit and you drivers license is all that you will be required to show. Not only will you be required to obtain an international driving permit, you will also be required to show your license along with the permit in order to pick up your rental. The international driving permit needs to be obtained before you leave your country, therefore you need to look into whether or not this permit is require for your rental several weeks before you are scheduled to travel to your destination.

Next you need to find out if the country you are visiting requires an international insurance card, as proof that you are insured while driving your rental internationally. This is usually required for all international rental cars, so what you really need to do is contact your insurance company and inform them that you are in need of this documentation. Many insurance companies are regionally located so the insurance card that you receive will let the rental company know that you are a carrier of valid insurance, therefore you are eligible to rent your vehicle. Internationally there are many companies that will probably be familiar to you and it is advisable to use a company that is known to you when leasing internationally. It is also important to book any extras you will need in advance with your rental company. Whether you will need a child safety seat, ski carrier or a GPS you should reserve these items in advance. Don’t assume that they will be available when you arrive. And whenever possible do pay the extra amount and lease a GPS with your international rental. Since you will be traveling around a region that is unfamiliar to you, it will be handy to help direct you not only to tourist attractions and to your accommodations, but will also help you locate emergency services in the area you will be visiting.

As long as you inquire about, and obtain, all the required documents for your international car rental everything should go fairly smooth. Just make sure to have all you need and reserve your rental, along with your additional services, well in advance. Following CARS Can Save You Money On Your Rental

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010

CARS is one of the best methods around to assist you in finding the best deal on your car rental. It tends to be an overwhelming task, but following a mnemonic can make this task as easy as spelling C.A.R.S.

C- CHANGING pick up and drop off times and dates can significantly change the price on a vehicle rental, so if you have some flexibility in your travel schedule you will probably get a better overall rate. Try picking up on a Friday morning instead of a Thursday night, this can help cut you down to a weekend rate, or switch back to a Thursday night, for a lower rate. The same thing with a drop off, don’t rush to bring a car back Sunday morning, when most car rental agencies don’t come back in until Monday anyway. So many times you can pay until Sat night or Sunday but still return the car on Monday morning which gives you a free day.

A- Always be sure to ASK questions. By asking questions you are ensuring that you completely understand the terms of your agreement, therefore you will not be taken by surprise when you receive your final bill, or your credit card has extra charges when you get your statement. If you are unsure of something ask! You want to especially ask questions when it comes to what costs are included in the quote you are receiving. There are a lot of additional fees and charges that are added to your bill and these are often not quoted in your original request.

Find another article here: How to Select A Generator Which Will Suit Your Needs?

R- While you are renting your vehicle you want to make sure that you READ all the paperwork put in front of you and always act RESPONSIBLE while driving the vehicle. Be sure to carefully review what you are liable for and always be sure to closely follow the rules of the road while driving. The papers that you sign at the rental counter are legally binding contracts and should not be taken lightly.

S- SERVICE. It is extremely important to find out what type of service coverage you have while you are on the road. Many people make the mistake of paying for things out of pocket for the vehicle that later they can’t get reimbursed for. Road service is something that should be included but find out what they cover and who you need to call if you get stuck, many companies must pre-authorize any work that needs to be done, so get their consent in advance for any services.

Does Ocracoke Make A Great Destination for Family Beach Vacations?

Sunday, February 14th, 2010

“The Andy Griffith Show” was a 1960′s television show featured Andy, a sheriff in the small town of “Mayberry”. The show revolved around Andy, his friends and family, and the great fun times that they all had together. While “Mayberry” is a totally fictional town, did you know that there is a place that reminds us of it? This place hastens back to a time when life was much simpler, people were kinder to each other, and everyone seemed to know your name. The place? Ocracoke, North Carolina…located in the Outer Banks. It’s not only a great place for your family beach vacations, it’s a place that will move you in ways you won’t even realize. Read on to find out more…

North Carolina is a very modern state, so why is Ocracoke able to maintain this ode to “Days Gone By”? One reason could be that Ocracoke is a bit harder to get to. There is no direct road, no tunnel, no bridge… To get to Ocracoke you need to have either a private boat, or a private plane, or go via one of the public ferries that visit the island on a daily basis.

Even if you hate shopping on the mainland, we think you will like it in Ocracoke. The shops are all small and quaint, and just browsing in them will bring back thoughts of “Mayberry”. If you need to buy groceries there are only two main variety stores. They do have a post office to mail letters and postcards back to the mainland. One shop is dedicated to “just kites”, a wonderful way to pass time on the island. The tree-lined roadway that covers the shops in the main shopping area is another feature that we just love.

You can read one more article here: How to Use Debt Factoring and Survive the Recession | Bold Messenger News

One of the main tourist attractions at Ocracoke is it’s historic lighthouse. Built by Noah Porter, a builder from Massachusetts, in 1832, it is the oldest continuously operating lighthouse in North Carolina (and the second oldest in the US). It is 75 feet tall, with a diameter ranging from 25 feet at the base to 12 feet at the top. You can see the light from the top of this lighthouse 14 miles out to sea. A US Park Ranger is on duty in the summer, and while they are there, you can enter the base of the lighthouse. No climbing of the lighthouse is ever permitted.

In conclusion, what do we think of Ocracoke? We absolutely love it…love it. Even if you don’t enjoy going to the beach, this is the perfect place for your next family beach vacation, or family beach vacations… If you often think back to “days of old” when life was simpler and more carefree…definitely check out Ocracoke. Beware…you may leave your heart there…. :)
