Do Experts Believe Registry Cleaners Essential?

Friday, July 2nd, 2010

Differing opinions exist about the need for using registry cleaners to boost the performance of computers. While some reviews state they are a necessary program for optimizing performance and speedy startup, others state that they do more damage than good. These naysayers state that they are not just unnecessary, but can cause more harm than good.

Registry cleaners basically scan your computers registry for entries like malaware, invalid or unused files, DLL files that may not be of use, and corrupted or fragmented files. They then delete these files, and the theory then is that your computer will run faster and will have less problems. However, the questions arise – is all this cleaning really necessary? Are you given the option of manually removing the files that are listed as unnecessary and harmful?

With one reviewer even calling registry cleaners ‘snake oil, ‘ one has to wonder about using them. There are some experts who insist that using a cleaner is dangerous. Because it can isolate or remove files that are actually needed to run the operating system or programs, it can cause crashes or program malfunctions. The best result they can foresee is the possible gain of a bit of space, and perhaps a little quicker start up. However, the possible disk space gain is quite irrelevant with the huge disk space on our modern computers.

Many registry cleaners offer a free trial by way of a system scan. This is to induce you to buy the program to clean up the hundreds of errors found. Once you purchase it and run it, you just may find your computer speedier. However, you also may find it functions even less optimally that before. The program may have removed some necessary and critical entries, causing your new problems. In any case, you may even notice it runs slower, because the registry deletions have fragmented it.

All registry cleaners advise running the program on a scheduled basis in order to keep your registry error free. With the thousands of files in any registry, a few orphaned or unused entries will likely not affect the speed or performance very much. Instead, it may quarantine some files that are needed, what is known as a false positive result.

Manual repair or alteration of your registry is a much safer way to go, if you are experiencing a problem. If your computer skills are not up to the task, then go hire an expert, or just leave it. With scant real data behind their claims, you should not trust software programs reviews.

Instead of using registry cleaners, start with a clean system. Install only licensed programs, and keep the original programs so you can reinstall them if necessary. Avoid installing trial software and uninstalling it. Back up your data, especially the critical stuff. Keep your anti-virus and malaware systems up to date and running. Run disk cleanup and defragment your system on a regular basis. By taking these basic steps, you will never need to think about cleaning out your registry.

Are you stressed over registry cleaners that don’t work and delete files that are critical? Well, with our software, you won’t have to worry. If you want to know more you should read our registry cleaners reviewed article.

Maximizing Your Personal Security With Self Defense Products

Thursday, July 1st, 2010

Self defense products are crucial in protecting you against thief or any other kind of attacker. There is a plethora of options to choose from when looking for personal safety products including tasers, pepper spray, stun guns, personal alarms and more. Security products make being safe a less overwhelming task and are easy to use.

These products are a great way to achieve security and peace of mind. Carry dependable non lethal weapons with you at all times, even if you know martial arts.

Self-defense products are gaining in popularity because they are effective against attacks, and they don’t take as much time to learn. Martial arts or other self-defense courses are great to learn, but for many people, they take too much time to learn, and can be expensive. Security products are a great alternative to carrying a loaded gun, a knife or another weapon that could cause permanent damage or even death.

It is crucial that women always be aware of their settings for personal safety. Men are less likely than women to getting attacked. Since women are 4 times more likely to be attacked than men it is especially important that they at least carry pepper spray.

Women often like pepper spray as a easy to use self defense item. When choosing a pepper spray, women have many options. Such include pepper spray pen, lipstick pepper spray, pepper ring or pepper spray key chains.

Since most women have long hair, it makes that a perfect place for an assailant to grab them. It hurts and lessens the victim’s ability to defend themselves by immobilizing a susceptible area like the head as well as limiting their vision. This is why I cannot stress enough how important carrying self defense products is and always have them with you.

Other than pepper spray, stun guns and tasers are effective self defense weapons which are non lethal as well as easy to use. Having non-lethal weapons is important since they wont permanently hurt your assailant, avoiding any legal difficulties that could arise if you had used a knife or gun instead.

For maximum protection always carry something with you and beware of your surroundings. Attackers like to attack those who are distracted. Don’t let that be you.

Spyware And What You Should Know About It

Monday, June 21st, 2010

What exactly is spyware? Spyware is a form of malware that is used to gain valuable knowledge on a user, without them knowing that you are obtaining this information. This valuable knowledge can be anything from passwords and usernames to bank account and credit card information. It can even be as simple as a co-worker placing in a key logger on your computer to steal your passwords. Malware on the other hand is software that also installs itself on your computer without you knowing but its role is more or less to damage your computer.

Overall the point that I’m trying to make here is that spyware is bad and you should be protecting yourself against it at all costs. I personally use two different pieces of software to protect myself against spyware. One prevents spyware from ever getting into my computer and another is used to find and remove spyware that already on my computer. I suggest using both as you will get a much better level of protection.

The first is called MalwareBytes Anti Malware and is a free program. Once you have installed it on your computer perform a full scan to fully scan your hard drive. I highly recommend doing this as it will go through each and every single file on your computer individually to make sure that it is not infected. Once a full scan is done and you plan on doing another scan in the future, quick scan will be sufficient. There is only one downside to using the free version of this software- you have to manually update it by clicking on the update button. If you are interested just do a Google search for them.

The second piece of software that I use is called Spyware Blaster. This is the program that I use to protect my computer by preventing malware and spyware from getting in. Notice the difference here: one program is used to scan and eliminate malware/spyware and the other tries to prevent it from ever coming in. Just download and install the program and it will provide you with full protection. With this program you are also going to have to manually update it, but hey its a lot better than paying for it.

Now that you know about how to prevent against spyware your computer will be safe from all kind of infections and this will also make your computer run faster since there will be less programs running in the background.

So You Have A Slow Computer? Here Is A Technique To Make It Faster (And It Doensn’t Involve Registry Cleaners)

Sunday, June 13th, 2010

If you have a slow computer and you don’t really know exactly how to make it faster here is a little bit of insight for you. See your computer is slow mainly because of the operating system. Your computers operating system tries its best to be efficient, but that usually doesn’t end up working. What happens is that your computer will start to slow down in time due to an increase in junk in many different areas of the computer.

By junk I mean useless files that simply just don’t get deleted. One of the best ways to make your computer faster is to simply remove some of this junk and then your computer will run faster again. The more junk that you have on your computer, the slower it will perform. So what’s the best way to remove this junk? Simple regular maintenance.

Where do you start? One of the best places to start is with your hard drive. Your hard drive is the area that stores all of your files like your music, videos and things like that. If it fails, you will loose all of your files. This is why it is very important to keep your hard drive in a healthy state. Here’s how to do it:

Click Start, and go to My Computer (for those you that are using Vista just click on Computer icon). Now right click on you local drive (the C:) and click on Properties. Now, in the Properties window, click the Tools tab and double click on the Check Now button. Once yourin the Check Disk window, check off “Automatically Fix File System Errors” and also check off “Scan For And Attempt To Recover For Bad Sectors”. Click start and chances are that it will say that you need to perform a restart. Just restart your computer and when you come back it will launch the program.

By using this specific program on your computer what you are doing is forcing your computer check it’s hard drive for any potential problems that might occur or are currently dwelling on your computer. Then what the program does is it tries to fix these problems so that in the long run they will not develop into larger problems which might get out of contorl. These types of problems tend to occur as a result from when your comptuer encounters some from of a prblem like it freezes or if you did something like turn off your computer suddenly.

Tips To Avoid Hackers That Become A Major Problem On The Web

Wednesday, June 9th, 2010

The biggest problem facing computer users today is the threat of hackers, and would be hackers trying to access our websites. Nobody is immune to these pests. In fact the higher the profile, the more somebody will try to hack your site. Hackers have even tried to hack the U.S. Government websites before now.

The highest profile hacking incident in past years must have been when the official Spanish website for its EU presidency was hacked into. The hackers then inserted a picture of Mr. Bean onto the site. So is there anything we can do to prevent such hackers getting into our computers?

Apparently Internet Explorer is very vulnerable to hackers. If you need to access the internet, why not try using Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome instead of Internet Explorer.

Aluminium Sliding Doors » Page not found - is one more helpful article for you.

Regularly change your passwords for your websites. Weekly password changes should be sufficient to prevent unwanted attacks. You could also use a combination of capital letters, numbers, lower case letters and symbols for your passwords. This can make it harder for the hackers to crack your password.

When running SQL scripts always escape the variable data, thus returning log in information back to your system.

Try to avoid open sources such as Media Wiki or Word press. Hackers can always guess where the log in screens is on these open source applications. There are unfortunately potholes in some of the codes that can allow hackers access to your website.

Websites should always have SSL encryption. This should stop your data from being picked up by hackers.

Firewalls should be kept on at all times. Always have up to date Anti Virus software, and always scan your computer regularly.

Be wary of anybody that uses your computer. It does not matter if it is somebody from work, or even one of your friends that uses your computer. The fact is that friends have been known to be hackers too.

What You Should Know About Viruses And How To Protect Against Them

Sunday, June 6th, 2010

If you use the internet on a regular basis then you should be aware of some of the harmful things out there that can harm your computer. There are many different harmful things like malware and spyware but for the purposes of this article were going to discuss viruses and how you should protect yourself against them. A virus is basically a malicious piece of software that has been created with the sole intention of harming a computer.

This will just eat up your computers resources which in the long run will slow down your computer. Now what most people do when their computer starts to slow down is they will go out and buy a registry cleaner which will make your computer a bit faster, but it will not have nearly as much leverage as if you were to simply get rid of all of the malicious software that is on your computer.

The obvious answer to solving this problem would be to simply stop using the internet. But as we all know that is not possible, so the only other option would be to use anti-virus programs. This presents another set of problems – which ones are the good ones that will actually prevent my computer from being infected, not slow down my computer and not cost me a fortune? Well thankfully for you I have years of experience with multiple different anti-virus programs and I’ll recommend the top two one that I have used on my personal computers and recommend to other people.

The very first proram that I use is called AVG Anti-Virus. With this piece of software you can get a free version and a paid version. If you dont have enough money for the paid version of the software, dont worry, just use the free one – it works jsut find. I have actually used the free one for a few years now and I personally think that it works just as good as most paid ones. But obviously, the paid version of this software has a few more features on it that you can use. Now, when you decided to use AVG as your main anti-virus program, what you are going to need to do is tune it to make your computer faster. There are many different ways to “tune” the program to do this, but for the most part I am going to focus on just one trick in this article, preventing it from performing a scan as soon as you turn on your computer. What this means is that you are going to have to manually tell it to perform scan when it is convenient for you. To do this, just click on the “Computer Scanner”, click on the Manage Scheduled Scans and then select “Edit Scan Schedule”. Now all you have to do to finish off is to just uncheck the box that says “Enable this task”

The other anti-virus program that I recommend is called ESET Nod 32 Anti-Virus. Now there is only a paid version of this but that being said you do get a lot of protection, it is not annoying to use and you do not have to configure it at all. This is probably the best anti-virus that I have ever tired and I highly recommend it to anyone.

Models And Designs Of Combination Lock Box

Saturday, June 5th, 2010

The combination lock box is very important especially in the real estate business particularly to a realtor or a house owner for the security and safety of the property which is subject to sale. There are several types of these devices and these can be wall-mounted or portable type which can be kept secured by the use of keys or codes. This storage bin comes in various sizes and shapes with many different models and designs to choose from to suit your needs.

As soon as your mountable key holder has been properly installed, you can instantly create your own code which is easy to remember. You can mount a combination lock box on any wall for accessible to you and never be locked out again. This carries with it the necessary hardware for mounting to allow easy attachment to any wall. This particular storage bin can contain up to five keys for house, car, or shed padlock, and more which can be neatly organized through its compartments provided within.

They can change the code anytime especially if the previous owner has an access to the code to protect the interest of the new house owner. The combination lock box is secured by a personalized code with at least four or more dials that you can readily create. It offers up to one thousand combinations for easy and convenience in the adjustments or changes of codes for your optimum security. This is very common among realtors with some properties negotiable for sale.

The use of electro-magnetic combination lock box must also be considered especially for areas where people usually converge. Application of electro-magnetic combination lock box covers hospitals, office buildings, mass transit station, airports and doors with restricted access for security reasons. This is very applicable too to doors which can be used as ingress or egress in case of emergency or during calamity outbreaks.

A storage bin that keeps the important keys of your house must be one that is tamper-proof to ensure security and safety of the property concerned. This key bin is generally built with strong and pure metal to be rust-free for long lasting performance. This is usually constructed from sturdy, die-cast zinc with fortified steel shackle to ensure long-term endurance and reliability as a combination lock box.

Combination lock box are among the amazing pieces to reckon with among its kind. They come in many designs and varied applications for safekeeping.

How To Tune Your Windows Vista Operating System For Performance

Monday, May 31st, 2010

If you have switched over from XP to Vista you surly will have known by now that Vista is much slower. This lack of speed has to do with Vista dedicating a lot of its resources to trying to “look pretty”. Making the operating system look nice is great and all but when it comes time to actually get some work done it can be a huge problem. In this article I am going to show you two quick ways to make your Vista perform a it faster but you are going to have to be willing to sacrifice some of Vistas looks in order to get more function. Keep in mind that there really is no point in having your computer look really nice since you are the only person that is really going to be seeing it.

If you are using the Home Premium, Enterprise, Business or Ultimate more likely than not you have the Aero effect turned on. This effect is designed to make your computers windows have a glass like effect that looks cool. It also allows you to have Windows Flip 3D which is just a fancy version of the Alt + Tab combination which allows you to cycle through your currently opened programs. If your not sure what the Flip 3D is, just open a few programs, hold down the Windows Button and press the Tab key a few times – that’s Windows Flip 3D. Now hold down the Alt key and press the Tab key a few times – that’s the old way of cycling through your programs. Here’s how to get rid of the Aero effect:

Click Start, click on Control Panel and on the left hand side make sure that the Control Panel Home is selected. Click on Appearance and Personalize, click on Personalize, click on Windows Color and Appearance and at the bottom select “Open classic appearance properties for more color options”. Now in this new window under the Color Scheme drop down box select Windows Vista Basic. Click Apply and then OK. This should turn off the Aero effect.

Find another article here: 404 Not Found

The second thing that you probably don’t need that Vista has to offer is the sidebar. Now, unless you actually use the gadgets on the sidebar regularly (the clock doesn’t count, there’s one in the bottom right hand corner of your screen that is perfectly good) then I suggest that you get rid of it. It really serves no function to the average user except to make your computers desktop look cool. Here’s how to do it:Right click on the windows sidebar icon in the System Tray and select properties (the system tray is that little group of icons in the bottom right hand corner next to the clock). In the Windows Sidebar Properties dialog box uncheck the box the “Start Sidebar when Windows Starts” and select Apply and then OK. Now just right click on the Windows Sidebar Icon in the system tray again and select Exit.

By doing both of these things you have now given yourself some more resources to use which in the long run will make your computer faster.

Bootmgr Error Problem Dose This Mean I Need Virus Removal?

Thursday, May 20th, 2010

If you ever start your computer and get an error something like cannot load bootmgr error when starting a computer, It is a possibility that it was caused from a computer virus and you may need virus removal, or it was caused by something else. You can try booting from the recovery CD but if you get the same error, you need to dig deeper. There could be many reasons for this error. We will look at one possible solution that may help you to fix the error. This computer would not boot from anything except the Vista Operating system CD. This is probably the worst case scenario.

This was a Dell Inspiron laptop. This can happen if you format the C partition of you computer or if the files are damaged somehow. This was the case today when a customer brought in the dell laptop, he had tried to reload the OS. His “C” drive was wiped out

I had no clue from the customer what had happened with the laptop and I was not able to boot in any mode, (safemode or normal) the only thing on the screen was the bootmgr error message. I figured I would try my Bart PE disk (bootable CD with its own operating system) Well I was able to boot from the Bart PE boot disk and examine the hard disk drive. I could noticed that recovery partition was still intact.

Located in the recovery partition was a Tools folder that contained PCRestore and Imagex.exe In another location in the recovery partition was another folder or sub folder that contained an image file neamed factory.wim Once all this was located I wrote down the path to the Imagex.exe program and the location of the image file.

I closed the file viewing program that I was running in the Bart PE OS and opened a command prompt window.
I changed to the folder location that contained the Imagex.exe file and typed out the command, for Imagex.exe

to apply the image to the C partition of the hard drive, about 15 minutes later the computer was restored to factory condition. The command was somthing like this, imagex /apply d:dell/Image/Factory.wim 1 c: d:dell/Image/ is be the path to the image file Factory.wim is the name of the image file 1 means the first image
c: is the location to apply the image, being the boot partition for the laptop

That was all I needed to do, hope that may help others solve their bootmgr error

Practical Uses for Today’s Keyloggers

Friday, April 30th, 2010

A keylogger is a program that runs in your computer’s background secretly recording all your keystrokes. Once your keystrokes are logged, they are hidden away for later retrieval by the attacker. The attacker then carefully reviews the information in hopes of finding passwords or other information that would prove useful to them. For example, a keylogger can easily obtain confidential emails and reveal them to any interested outside party willing to pay for the information.

Keyloggers can be either software or hardware based. Software-based keyloggers are easy to distribute and infect, but at the same time are more easily detectable. It’s much more difficult to detect hardware based keyloggers as they are more complex’. For all that you know, your keyboard could have a keylogger chip inserted and anything being typed is recorded into a flash memory sitting inside your keyboard. Keyloggers have become one of the most powerful applications used for gathering information in a world where encrypted traffic is becoming more and more common.

The ability to detect a keylogger becomes more difficult as technology advances. Without you even noticing, they can violate your privacy for months or even years. During that time frame, a keylogger can collect a lot of information about the user it is monitoring. A keylogger can potential obtain not only passwords and log-in names, but credit card numbers, bank account details, contacts, interests, web browsing habits, and much more. All this collected information can be used to steal user’s personal documents, money, or even their identity.

A keylogger might be as simple as an .exe and a .dll that is placed in a computer and activated upon boot up via an entry in the registry. Or, some of the more high-level keyloggers, such as the Perfect Keylogger or ProBot Activity Monitor have developed a full line of malevolent abilities including:

” Completely invisible in operationg and undetectable in the running processes list
” A kernel keylogger driver that captures keystrokes even when the user is logged off
” A remote deployment wizard
” The ability to create text snapshots of active applications
” The ability to capture http post data (including log-ins/passwords)
” The ability to timestamp record workstation usage
” HTML and text log file export
” Automatically log all e-mail delivery

Of course, illegal use is not the only reason to deploy keyloggers. Many other purposes have arisen. Parental control of your children is one such use, as you may monitor the web sites they are visiting. They have been actively used to prevent child pornography and avoid children coming in contact with dangerous elements on the web.

Additionally, in December, 2001, a federal court ruled that the FBI did not need a special wiretap order to place a keystroke logging device on a suspect’s computer. The judge permitted the FBI to keep details of its key logging device secret (citing national security concerns). The defendant in the case, Nicodemo Scarfo Jr., indicted for gambling and loan-sharking, used encryption to protect a file on his computer. The FBI used the keystroke logging device to capture Scarfo’s password and gain access to the needed file.
